Acetal Index
Acetal provides high strength and stiffness coupled with enhanced dimensional stability and ease of machining. As a semi-crystalline material, acetal is also characterised by a low coefficient of friction and good wear properties, especially in wet environments.
Main advantages of our acetal sheet, rod and tube are: - Acetal has high mechanical strength, stiffness, hardness and toughness
- Excellent resilience
- Acetal has good creep resistance
- Acetal has high impact strength, even at low temperatures
- Acetal has very good dimensional stability (low water absorption)
- Acetal has good sliding properties and wear resistance
- Acetal is excellent for machining
- Acetal has good electrical insulating and dielectric properties
- Acetal is physiologically inert (suitable for food contact)
The main disadvantage of acetal is that it is not self-extinguishing.
Because acetal absorbs minimal amounts of moisture, its physical properties remain constant in a variety of environments. Low moisture absorption results in excellent dimensional stability for close-tolerance machined parts. In high moisture or submerged applications, acetal bearings outperform nylon 4 to 1.
Acetal is ideally suited for close tolerance mechanical parts and electrical insulators which require strength and stiffness. It also offers resistance to a wide range of chemicals including many solvents.
For general purpose use, both Delrin (Acetal Homopolymer) and Acetal (Copolymer) perform similarly and material selection can be based on stock availability. For specific technical applications, or if you need further help selecting the appropriate grade - please contact us.
Choose material grade The following grades of Delrin and Acetal are available to buy online - please select from:
|
Delrin | Delrin - otherwise referred to as acetal homopolymer - is manufactured from Delrin acetal resin. Delrin has higher mechanical strength, stiffness, hardness and creep resistance as well as a lower thermal expansion rate and often it also presents a better wear resistance than the acetal copolymer grade.
Available colours: White only
Available to buy in: Sheet: 8mm to 50mm thick Rod: 5mm to 200mm diameter |
|
| Acetal Copolymer | Acetal copolymer is more resistant against hydrolysis, strong alkalis and thermal-oxidative degradation than the acetal homopolymer. Our acetal copolymer is the only porosity free acetal product available today and is FDA compliant (when purchased in white rod, sheet and tube or black rod and tube).
Available colours: White & Black
Available to buy in: Sheet: 1mm to 120mm thick Rod: 5mm to 200mm diameter Tube: various OD x ID - including large diameter |

| Ertacetal H-TF / Delrin AF | Ertacetal H-TF is a Delrin AF Blend, a combination of Teflon fibres evenly dispersed in a Delrin acetal resin. Compared with Acetal Copolymer and Homopolymer, this material offers superior sliding properties.
Ertacetal H-TF is manufactured to order, and subject to minimum order quantities.
Available colours: Deep Brown
Available to buy in: Sheet: 12mm to 50mm thick Rod: 10mm to 100mm diameter |
